About Binder Development

Binder Development is dedicated to the construction of enduring homes and buildings guided by traditional architectural principles and permanent materials. We focus on estate homes, carriage houses, and carefully planned residential properties designed to age gracefully and serve families for generations.

Through thoughtful land planning, each project begins with the natural characteristics of the property—ensuring that siting, access, drainage, and long-term stewardship are considered before construction begins.

Based in Highlands, North Carolina, our work is rooted in a market where consistent, on-the-ground involvement is essential but often difficult to maintain. Binder Development remains actively engaged throughout both planning and construction, providing continuity in projects that are frequently managed across distance.

About the Founder

Binder Development was founded by Lawrence Binder. His work focuses on estate and select commercial projects built with durable materials and traditional construction methods.

His background in medical device engineering and product design informs a disciplined approach to construction—emphasizing structural integrity, sequencing, and long-term performance. This perspective carries through each project, where decisions are made not only for immediate execution, but for how a building will endure over time.

He is named as an inventor on more than 50 patents and has extensive experience taking complex systems from initial concept through development and implementation. As a Freemason, his work is guided by principles of building, integrity, and continual self-improvement.

Collaboration

Binder Development works closely with Architects, Engineers, and Landscape Architects to ensure that site planning, infrastructure, and architecture evolve together throughout the design and construction process.

We work in close collaboration with Architects to ensure that their designs are carried through as intended—bridging the gap between concept and construction so that material choices, proportions, and details are executed with consistency and discipline.

This integrated approach allows projects to be guided by both design intent and practical execution—resulting in properties that function well, age gracefully, and feel naturally connected to the land they occupy.

Projects benefit from early collaboration with Landscape Architecture, allowing site planning, drainage, tree preservation, and long-term planting strategies to be considered alongside building design and construction.

Ashley Hagan Binder is the principal of Hagan Binder Landscape Architects, also based in Highlands.
